Air Algeria readjusts its order Airbus by opting for more A330-900

copyright : newsaero

Air Algeria has revised its order from the manufacturer Airbus, thus adjusting its strategy to optimize its fleet. The company has decided to abandon the purchase of two Airbus A350-1000s to replace them with three additional Airbus A330-900s, bringing the total number of aircraft ordered to 16, instead of the 15 initially planned. The original order included five Airbus A330-900s and two A350-1000s, in addition to eight medium-haul aircraft ordered from Boeing. During a press conference on January 14, Air Algérie CEO Hamza Ben Hamouda explained that this revision was made via an amendment to the initial agreement. This change aims to homogenize the company’s fleet, which already operates eight Airbus A330-200s. The addition of new A330-900s allows for better aircraft integration and presents significant logistical advantages, particularly in terms of maintenance, crew training and spare parts management. Although the A330-900s are slightly less spacious than the A350-1000s, their increased number compensates for this difference in terms of capacity, with between 280 and 320 seats per aircraft. This homogenization will also limit disruptions in the event of a breakdown or grounding of an aircraft, since the company will be able to easily reassign passengers to a similar aircraft. Delivery of the first modified A330-900s is scheduled for June 2025, marking an important turning point for Air Algérie in its project to modernize and strengthen its capacities, both on its domestic and international routes. Management of flight waste in Martinique: Corsair sees the first results

Corsair, in partnership with the Overseas Ecological Transition Institute (ITEDOM Institut Transition Écologique Des O-M) and Newrest, announced on March 8, 2024, the launch of waste management for flights to Martinique. Corsair thus became the first airline to set up a system for sorting and managing waste on board aircraft, marking a significant turning point in the dynamics in favor of waste management in the Overseas Territories. Several months after the implementation of this waste management operation for flights in Martinique, Corsair, in partnership with ITEDOM, a leading organization in the field of circular economy and energy transition for the Overseas Territories, and Newrest, the world’s leading independent player in airline catering, is unveiling its first results. The initiative, launched in March 2024, marks a significant step forward in the management of waste from flights. Since the launch of the program: 📌 2.04 tons of transparent plastic bottles (PET) have been recycled. This waste, handled by the service provider ALIZE Environnement, is processed by the company Martinique Recyclage. 📌 14.78 tons of organic waste, including 3.7 tons collected specifically on Corsair flights, were sent to the company IDEX CVO to be transformed into compost. These figures demonstrate the effectiveness of the sorting processes implemented and the commitment of the teams on a daily basis. Optimizing recycling allows Corsair to significantly reduce the tonnage of waste on board flights. In just a few months, the results speak for themselves: 📌 On the Paris/Fort-de-France segment alone, Corsair has recycled the equivalent of the weight of 12 Twingo cars or 1 bus. 📌 By continuing this trajectory, the company will avoid the landfill of a volume of waste equivalent to an Airbus A319 within 5 years. 📌 The recycling of plastic bottles alone is equivalent to the annual water consumption of a city such as Etretat. The results obtained owe a lot to the involvement of the teams, in particular the cabin crew (PNC) of the Corsair airline. In a global approach, Corsair had already implemented several actions to reduce its waste production by removing excess packaging such as kits, blankets and duvets, as well as containers to limit the use of plastic. In addition, the single-use plastic present on the Economy class meal tray had been removed.

Operational performance: Brussels Airlines stays on course!

On 29 October, the Belgian national airline announced its figures for the third quarter. From July to September, Brussels Airlines achieved an adjusted EBIT of 78 million euros, which is once again a record profit for the Belgian national airline. These results were achieved thanks to an increase in production on the long-haul network and solid regularity figures. For the first nine months of the year, Brussels Airlines posted lower results than in the same period in 2023. The airline was unable to fly at full capacity in the first half of the year due to internal and external factors. However, the good results in the summer prove that the airline’s strategy is working. During the third quarter of 2024, Brussels Airlines carried 2.5 million passengers on more than 17,000 flights. The number of passengers increased by 1.3% compared to the third quarter of last year. The total number of flights operated, however, decreased by 2.5%. The airline added a tenth long-haul aircraft to its fleet and increased its capacity to sub-Saharan Africa. The Nairobi route, which was recently restarted, even recorded the highest load factor of all Brussels Airlines long-haul flights during the past summer period. On the other hand, the lack of additional flights in collaboration with a wet-lease company, particularly to meet the high summer demand, led to a decrease in production on the European network. AIR AUSTRAL signs a commercial partnership with Air Seychelles to relaunch its flights to the Seychelles

After four months of suspension, the Air Austral service connecting Reunion Island to the Seychelles is operational again; this since Wednesday, June 26, 2024. It is no longer a direct route as in the past, but rather a line stopping in Mauritius (in both directions). Its relaunch is the result of a partnership based on a system of quotas called “SPA”, signed between Air Austral and Air Seychelles, with immediate effect. The flight between Reunion Island and Mauritius will be operated by Air Austral, while Air Seychelles will provide the connection between Mauritius and the Seychelles. A stopover of 2 to 3 hours is planned in Mauritius. “This is a destination that we know is particularly appreciated by the people of Reunion Island, and that we hope to be able to resume directly, as soon as the financial and operational situation of the company allows it, and in agreement with our authorities”, promises the Chairman of the Board of Air Austral. In the meantime, the agreement with Air Seychelles allows passengers to travel with a single ticket for their entire journey. In addition, it offers travelers “more flexible and cost-effective” travel options, assures the Reunion airline. Due to its financial difficulties, Air Austral had suspended its flights between Reunion and the Seychelles in February 2024. It has been in the process of restructuring since April.

With metro 14, Corsair flights from Orly airport are accessible in 25 minutes from Paris

Paris-Orly Airport, ideally located in the immediate vicinity of Paris, is becoming even more accessible thanks to the commissioning of the extension of metro line 14: Corsair passengers will therefore be able to travel to the airport in less than 25 minutes from the centre of the capital.

Thanks to this new means of direct access by public transport, in addition to a significant time saving, passengers benefit from a smooth journey to the airport as well as enhanced connectivity. Passengers coming from Gare de Lyon can therefore take line 14 to get to Paris-Orly airport in 23 minutes and without any changes.

Ideally located in Terminal 4 of Paris-Orly Airport, the Corsair sales and check-in counters are now just a few minutes from the capital, thanks to metro line 14 and the Orly shuttle connecting it to Terminal 4. For a stress-free journey, truly designed to make travel easier for travelers, access to metro line 14 in Paris-Orly airport is accessible to people with reduced mobility and suitable for transporting luggage.

This line extension will strengthen the attractiveness of Paris-Orly airport, which also benefits from another significant advantage: its proximity to the Rungis international market, now accessible in 5 minutes.

For the 2024 winter season, Transavia is adding 9 new international lines to its flight schedule

copyright : transavia

The low-cost airline of the Air-France KLM group is continuing to develop its network for the 2024 winter season and has announced the opening of 9 new routes, including 6 from Bordeaux and 3 from Paris Orly, Lyon and Marseille. With the addition of these new international routes to its winter schedule, Transavia France customers will be able to fly for the first time to Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) from Paris-Orly and Lyon, and also to Hurghada (Egypt) from Marseille.

A reinforcement towards the Middle East: In parallel with these multiple openings from Bordeaux, the low-cost airline of the Air-France KLM group will serve for the first time the largest country in the Arabian Peninsula: Saudi Arabia. From October 27, 2024, Transavia France will fly to Jeddah from Paris-Orly and Lyon. From these two major French cities, the company’s customers will be able to reach the Saudi kingdom more easily. In addition, the company announces the opening of a new Egyptian line, this time served from Marseille-Provence airport. While Transavia France serves nearly four Egyptian cities from Paris-Orly, Nantes and Lyon airports, the company will now offer direct connections between Marseille and Hurghada. “The addition of these new international routes to our winter 2024 schedule illustrates our commitment to meeting our passengers’ growing demand for varied and attractive destinations. We are particularly excited to expand our network by serving Saudi Arabia for the first time, with flights to Jeddah from Paris-Orly and Lyon. At the same time, we are strengthening our offer from Bordeaux by adding 6 new destinations. These new connections allow our customers to discover key regions of the Middle East, Europe and North Africa while benefiting from the comfort and quality of service of Transavia France.” said Nicolas Hénin, Deputy Managing Director of Sales and Marketing at Transavia France.

Fly Air Senegal reestablishes four European routes, including Milan and Barcelona, after a 5-month absence

Air Senegal has resumed its connection between hashtag#Dakar and Milan Malpensa since Monday, June 10, 2024. The airline now offers two flights per week between the Senegalese capital and the Italian city. The flights are operated by an Airbus A321-200 with a capacity of 156 seats (16 in business class and 149 in economy). It competes on this route with the Italian private airline Neos, which offers three flights per week in Dreamliner. The Senegalese airline also plans to restart its lines between Dakar-Barcelona (twice a week), as well as its Dakar – Marseille -Lyon – Dakar (two weekly rotations) during this month. Unlike the connection to Milan, these lines will only be served during the high season. The connection to the Spanish city will be operational between June 23 and September 19, while the one serving French cities will be in service between June 23 and September 17. Air Senegal will compete on these routes with the low-cost airline Transavia. All of the above-mentioned routes were suspended last January due to their lack of profitability. Indeed, although they contributed 11% to the company’s turnover, these three lines were responsible for almost a third of its deficit, as the airline pointed out. According to the general management, the suspension of these routes was necessary to comply with the restructuring plan adopted at the presidential council of October 28, 2022. This plan aimed to achieve financial balance by the end of 2023, or even the beginning of 2024. The arrival of a new President of the Republic at the head of Senegal seems to have changed the trajectory of this plan.

Royal Air Maroc close to placing a very large order for short and long-haul aircraft

copyright newsaero

Moroccan national airline Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has entered into talks with aircraft manufacturers Airbus, Boeing and Brazil’s Embraer, with a view to ordering 188 aircraft by September.

About two-thirds of the 188 planes sought will be narrow-body aircraft, with the rest being wide-body aircraft with no more than 350 seats, Abdelhamid Addou said in an interview with Bloomberg on the sidelines of the IATA General Assembly in Dubai.

CEO Abdelhamid Addou also announced that Royal Air Maroc is looking for 30 regional transport aircraft. The company is studying the offers received from aircraft manufacturers last month and will then see “what the delivery schedules will be and what conditions we can obtain,” the executive stressed. Regardless of the aircraft selected, not all of the planes will arrive in time to meet the growing demand. CEO Abdelhamid Addou therefore specified that RAM will fill the deficit with leased planes.

Recall that Royal Air Maroc (RAM) had confirmed the launch of a call for tenders on April 15 for the acquisition of a maximum of 200 new aircraft. Royal Air Maroc has a fleet of 50 aircraft mixing ATR72-600, 737-800, MAX 8, 787-8 and -9 and Embraer 190.

The growth of the national airline is strategic for Morocco, which hopes to support the continued growth of its tourism industry. In 2023, Morocco received a record 14.5 million visitors, a figure that is expected to reach 17.5 million in 2026 and 26 million by 2030, the year it will host a FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal.

Presented on July 11, 2023 as part of Morocco’s ambitions to attract 65 million visitors in 2037, the program contract provides for an investment by the country in its national company, based at Casablanca-Mohammed V airport. The State’s participation in the capital of RAM “will be strengthened, as part of the government’s support for a large-scale investment project by the company, the implementation of its development plan, support for its competitiveness and digitalization and improvement of the quality of its services,” according to a press release from the Department of the Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch.

Madagascar Airlines reintegrates IATA financial system, obtains state support for the acquisition of two ATR72

Madagascar Airlines has finally joined the Billing and Settlement Plan and the IATA Clearing House, after a few months of delay (its integration was initially planned for June 2023). Its Chairman and CEO Thierry De Bailleul announced this on Thursday, March 21, 2024, during a press conference, reports the local press.

“Madagascar Airlines is once again a full member of IATA. Now, with our reintegration, it is possible to book flights to destinations such as Antananarivo or Nosy Be, through a large network of travel agencies affiliated with the BSP, which covers 70 to 90% of the market,” says Mr. de Bailleul.

If he speaks of reintegration, it is because the new Malagasy national flag was born from Air Madagascar (and Tsadaria its subsidiary specializing in domestic flights), which was excluded from the BSP in 2016 and 2018, because it no longer paid its fees for compensating for tickets issued but not used (BENU). Moreover, to integrate the BSP, Madagascar Airlines had to clear the debt of its predecessor, which was estimated at 3.5 to 5 million USD.

The integration of Madagascar Airlines comes as the company plans to lease (without crew-drylease) two ATR 72-500s in the coming months. The Council of Ministers of March 13 adopted the decree authorizing the Ministry of Economy and Finance to guarantee on behalf of the Malagasy government, the lease contract for these aircraft with ACIA Aero.

In its materialization, Afrijet “will transform its statutes to evolve into a public limited company with a Board of Directors and a Managing Director, with governance capitalizing on the principles of private management”. In view of the creation of Fly Gabon, Minister Mays Mouissi informs that the State has committed to the acquisition of a pair of ATR 72s, which will be added to the six aircraft from the same manufacturer that Afrijet already operates. As a reminder, Afrijet recently signed an interline agreement with Air France. Since 2019, it has become the leading airline in the CEMAC zone. A historic player in charter, the company has developed a regional regular air transport network since October 2016. IOSA certified since February 2020, Afrijet employs 320 people in Gabon, Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Sao Tome and Benin. Source: NEWSAERO

AIR BURKINA: CEO Maxime TOE steps down from his duties, Azakaria TRAORE takes command of the company

copyright : newsaero

Yet another new CEO at the head of Air Burkina. This time, it is Azakaria TRAORE appointed during the council of ministers held this Wednesday, March 6, 2024, in Ouagadougou, the Burkinabe capital. The civil aviation engineer replaces Maxime Dipina Christian TOE, in office since May 11, 2022. The latter’s departure comes at a time when the carrier’s flight schedule is experiencing disruptions due to the withdrawal for maintenance needs of its Embraer E190 rented from Bestfly.

Previously sales director, Maxime Dipina Christian TOE had succeeded Blaise Sanou, dismissed on April 27, 2022, three days after the fire declared on one of the two E195s of the Burkinabe flagship, which occurred at Ouagadougou international airport. At the time of the events, this aircraft was its only operational aircraft. On standby since May 11, 2017, Blaise Sanou struggled to roll out a real restructuring plan, intended to improve the air carrier’s financial indicators.

Azakaria TRAORE was the Director General of the National Agency for Civil Aviation (ANAC). He inherited a loss-making and indebted company that no longer had its own aircraft in service. Its three aircraft (one E175 and two E195s), owned by the lessor Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC), are all out of service.

Corsair , ITEDOM and Newrest join forces to launch a pilot waste management project in Martinique

copyright : newsaero

The airline Corsair, in partnership with the Overseas Ecological Transition Institute (ITEDOM) and Newrest, the world’s leading independent player in airline catering, announced on March 6 the launch of a waste management project for flights to Martinique.

Since March 8, Corsair has been the first airline to implement a system for sorting and managing waste on board aircraft, marking a major turning point in the dynamics in favor of waste management in the French overseas departments.

Thanks to this innovative partnership, Corsair, ITEDOM and Newrest are taking the initiative to change the situation: this pilot project will be deployed in Martinique first, making this island territory a pioneer in this ecological approach. It is important to note that waste from flights in Martinique was previously incinerated, thus highlighting the urgency of finding sustainable solutions. Waste is a real scourge, especially in the overseas territories where recycling infrastructures are limited. This project is part of a common desire of these stakeholders to work for the respect of these territories, for the preservation of their beauty and their biodiversity.

Subsequently, this process will be gradually extended to other airports, notably in Paris, Reunion Island and Guadeloupe.

Alongside Corsair and ITEDOM, Newrest is committed to this initiative by setting up a tray sorting system upon flight arrival, and by establishing partnerships with local waste recovery sectors. This collaboration demonstrates the importance of involving all stakeholders to contribute locally to better waste management. This joint effort highlights the crucial role of ITEDOM in the development, deployment and acceleration of the ecological transition in the Overseas Territories. This project was also made possible thanks to the investment and support of the cabin crew (PNC) of the Corsair airline.

Progress reports on this action are already planned.

Through this project, Corsair further affirms its commitment to the ecological transition of the sector. Indeed, Corsair has begun the second phase of the renewal of its fleet. After integrating 5 Airbus A330neo between April 2021 and June 2022, Corsair will receive 4 new A330neo by the end of the year. Corsair will thus have one of the youngest fleets on the market with more environmentally efficient aircraft since they allow a saving of more than 25% in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions per seat, and 60% in noise pollution.
